The total U.S. William Blair/PCO Bookkeepers & M&A Specialists Pest Index increased 8 percent year-over-year in August 2025, below the long-term average index growth rate of 10 percent.

After normalizing for one less workday in August, the Pest Index increased about 12 percent year-over-year. This level is above the long-term average and the results in June and July.

“On a workday-adjusted basis, the Pest Index accelerated throughout the summer from 7 percent in June to 9 percent in July and to about 12 percent in August,” says William Blair Equity Researcher Tim Mulrooney. “This was primarily driven by strength in the residential pest index, which likely benefited from warmer temperatures across much of the contiguous United States, particularly in the Southwest and Southeast. The commercial index notably decelerated in July and August.”

Dan Gordon, managing member of PCO Bookkeepers & M&A Specialists, notes, “The softness on the commercial side of the industry is something to keep an eye on; still, it’s encouraging that strong demand from homeowners fueled growth overall.”

The month’s results by segment include:

  • The Residential Pest Index increased 14 percent year-over-year.
  • The Commercial Pest Index increased 5 percent year-over-year.
  • The Termite Index increased 1 percent year-over-year.
  • The Bed Bug Index decreased 13 percent year-over-year.
  • The Mosquito Index increased 6 percent year-over-year.
